2022 admissions announcement
I’m thrilled to share this news today: on Friday, February 25th – two days from now – SOLA will open our admissions season for our incoming class of 2022. We intend to recruit as many as 50 girls and bring them to SOLA’s campus in Rwanda.
We plan to draw these girls from the Afghan diaspora, particularly from the population forced out of Afghanistan by the Taliban last summer. These Afghan girls, spread around the world in refugee camps, have little to no access to education. We intend to reach them.
Our school year begins in September. The girls who come to us will be tomorrow’s leaders, ready to return to their communities to teach other girls – and as we establish our roots in Rwanda, we aren’t turning away from Afghanistan and the women and girls there. We never will.
I wish, so much, that we could recruit girls from within Afghanistan this year. We simply can’t, for obvious reasons. But I’ve always said that we’ll return home when the time is right, and that promise hasn’t changed.
Tomorrow, I’ll be posting a list of Frequently Asked Questions about admissions. On Friday, our online application goes live in English, Dari, and Pashto. Everything will be available across SOLA’s social media and here on our website.
SOLA’s mission, in 2022 and in all the years to come, is to educate Afghan girls. Nothing can ever change that. Nothing ever will.
